Can Fame and Fortune Make You Happy?
Being famous can bring enormous amounts of stress. Although you get amazing perks and tickets to famous award shows, all the attention can be very stressful. People think celebrity life would be the best, but it’s not always fun being on camera 24/7.
Some think that they would be really happy living as a celebrity. According to University of Rochester in New York, “true happiness comes from having close relationships, time to focus on personal growth, and connections to your community.” Being a celebrity can make those things extremely difficult. You wouldn’t even be able to go to the store without being photographed or giving out autographs to fans.
Fame and fortune may be fine for some, but most wouldn’t like all the attention and stress that comes with it. According to an article found in Scope, “Beyoncé has said that though she likes attention when she’s onstage, she’d be happier if she could “cut it off” when she isn’t performing and just enjoy her life.” Celebrities are getting their looks and eating habits criticized by the media. Even having friends can be a problem, they wonder if their friends like them for who they are and what they do. Being on TV may be some people’s dream, but for celebrities most just want some time off.
Celebrities are limited to what they can do on days when they don’t have to perform. According to a Scope article, “Lawrence said that simply stepping outside her front door gives her anxiety.” “famous people can’t so much as walk their dogs or tie their shoes without being gawked at, photographed, tweeted about, or Instagrammed.” Celebrities have a hard time having fun outside of being on stage.
Fame is not always the way to happiness, there can be other options that can lead to enjoyment. Celebrities have enormous amounts of stress and attention that comes from being famous. Most people want to be famous and think they would like the attention, although it could become very annoying and frustrating. Being famous, you wouldn’t be able to walk your dog, or go for a bike ride without being stopped and tried to talked to. Fame and fortune would not make me happy.
